What PVHS Students Say

About Their School

Hello.  The web team has asked P. V. H. S. students what they think about the school. Our goal is to let you hear many different perspectives on how the students really feel.

Melody

Attending Pima Vocational High School has really been a good experience for me. The teachers are really helpful in the classroom and the staff is really nice. Each teacher has his or her own unique style of teaching and different ways to get you to want to learn.

The school may seem small but it holds a lot of students who can't seem to get enough of this school. Sure, there are some students who come and go, but many find their way back to
Pima Vocational High School.

Another great thing about this school is that they really help out those teens with kids of their own. The school tries to do as much as they can to help keep these kids in school to get an education and better their future.

Speaking of future, PVHS has a School-to-work Program, which means that they show you and teach you all about holding a job, applying for a job, and even looking for or seeking your preferred profession.

In many ways this school is very different from other schools and seems to be doing very well for itself since it has opened
two more sites. All in all, this school has really made me push for my high school diploma and makes me want to further my education.

Rosanna

I have attended Pima Vocational High School for a year and 3 months. When I first started here, I came with a quarter of a credit, and my grade was a D-. I was so glad when I heard about this school, because I was pregnant. Regular high schools do not give you a second chance if you are pregnant. This school was so cooperative and understood what I was going through. I had my baby and I an still attending, and maintaining an A average.

The classes are really easy and you get .75 credit every 4 weeks. In regular high school it takes forever just to get .25 of a credit. We take vocational classes then get placed in work placement, and do intern work. These classes cover resumes, cover letters, attitudes toward work, how to dress in different jobs, etc. It is almost like you get paid to come to school.

The main thing I like about this school is you get your DIPLOMA not a GED!

The staff are really nice and understanding. The counselors are really helpful to you also. They can get you into a Youth On Their Own program, if you live out of your home which pays you $125.00 a month to help you out. They also have other programs like YO-Youth Opportunity, and they can also give you referrals to apply for jobs. This school is so helpful with almost everything. If you are a dropout or just having problems at your regular school, PLEASE come and check out Pima Vocational High School.

David

I think this is a very good school because of the way it’s being run. I feel the teachers that work here are very helpful in all aspects. Other than just helping the student's work independently, they are very polite and respectful to each and every student. They also are very lenient towards helping you catch up with work that you have missed.

I can consider PVHS to be a fun and productive school because of the activities, that are being used to teach, and the types of classes we attend. The classes aren't boring and the people that attend them all seem like they are here for a reason.

Dominic

Dominic has been PVHS for four mouths. He has also attended two public high schools. So far he likes it here. He wouldn’t go back to regular school if he could help it. Dominic says, " I really plan staying here for a couple of years. We all work at our own personal pace. Basically you earn the credits as fast as you do the work. This helps plenty of students out, including myself. This school has a great alternative to getting your necessary credits."

Hector

When I first came to P.V.H.S. I met this cool homie named Hector. He straight broke everything down and let me know everything I needed to know. So I asked Hector what he thinks you should know. Hector said, " If you are serious about graduating, this is the school that can help you get on track. Every faculty member wants to see all of us to graduate." Hector knows how to have fun and keep it real with everybody so I valued his opinion on this subject.

Betsy

Betsy, has been attending P.V.H.S. for two months. Betsy is a real honest person so I asked her a simple question. I asked her how class work and participation in school can be fun? Betsy said, "When teachers are more understanding of students and don’t have power trips, we as students give them more respect and that allows us to be more comfortable around our teachers." Betsy also stated that so far, teachers over here have been really helpful and thanks them.

We hope these interviews have given you some idea of how the school differs from public school. If you want to try something different too, don’t pass up this great opportunity. Most all of our students will agree that this school is one of the best alternatives in Tucson. We really recommend you pay a visit to P.V.H.S. and see for yourself.
